A good schedule is to ride Tuesday or Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, rest Monday and on the less strenuous days, include some cross training or swimming. You'll need plenty brain fuel to mentally prepare you for the distance ahead. On tours you'll be eating and drinking what would normally be considered a sickly amount but trust us, you'll need it! When you can, try and eat as you would when touring. Here's what's to expect: begin with hearty breakfast - carb rich and approx. 2 hours before your ride, 200-300 calories an hour during the ride, at least 1 bottle of water an hour (hydration is lost at an increasingly fast rate) - try and mix between electrolytes too.
