Catching Up with TCJ Sponsored Rider Emily

by Kisuka Collaborator |

Lockdown has been long and hard but now that it looks like it’s coming to an end, I’m more excited to race than ever before! I love cyclocross and road races, but mountain biking is definitely my favourite at the moment so to miss most of the race season has been pretty tough.

During lockdown I’ve had lots of schoolwork so most of my days have consisted of just school and training. Sitting at a computer screen all morning doing schoolwork has made getting out on my bike even better though. I’m so lucky to live in a place with loads of different places to ride and even though all the trails are closed it’s meant I’ve managed to explore new places that I would never have gone before lockdown. It’s been fun mapping out and planning my own rides as I’ve never been very good with maps! I usually ride with my dad and sometimes ride with my brother. I’ve definitely missed riding with friends and seeing them all at races though. This for me is a big part of racing, not just competing, but also seeing friends from all over the country.

Since the start of lockdown, I’ve downloaded Strava and have enjoyed analysing my rides more than I used to. I’ve been aiming for a few QOMs and it has kept my training fun.

I was really looking forward to doing a few races abroad this year, but most have been cancelled. Luckily, there is now a Swiss race I can compete at in July which I’m really looking forward to.

As well as riding my bike I have also been making face masks for my family and friends. I’ve also been doing some baking and a lot of art. My brother and I have perfected our rocky road recipe and it’s now become a family favourite!

I’m looking forward to things getting back to normal and getting some good racing in with hopefully some good result.
