Helix; Creating Green Space To Connect Local Communities

Falkirk's  honoured community, and two of Scotland's most well-known tourist attractions (Falkirk Wheel and The Helix) our located right across the heartland of Scotland.  It is also home to Callendar Wood Estate; a keen walkers absolute heaven!  With majestic and picturesque views through the towns 500 year old woodland, you can leave your troubles at home and burrow through the forest.

This year The Helix will celebrate the towns first ever Horse Power event; commending the heavy horse drawn history of the industry and economy; pulling the wagons and ploughs, barges and coal ships that shaped the structural layout of the area. 'The Kelpies name reflected the mythological transforming beasts possessing the strength and endurance of 100 horses; a quality that is analogous with the transformational change of our landscapes, endurance of our inland waterways and the strength of our communities.'

The Helix is the centre of all things active, with paths connecting over 500 kilometres of cycle routes across the Falkirk district. You can check out some of the local riders jaunts and regular rides here.  The options are varied from very family friendly, to loner rider technical trails.

If you're coming through, you have to bring the kids and your bikes to do The Helix Around Town Tour is a 16 mile circular cycle route starting at Falkirk Stadium and connecting The Helix, The Falkirk Wheel and Callendar Park. The HArTT begins at The Helix and travels by cycleway and towpath through woodlands, glens and communities.

If you're local to the area or are looking to fill some spare time by lending a hand, you can apply to become a member.  The Bespoke Community Development Company have constructed and maintained all sorts of trails in the area - one being the Falkirk - Linlithgow route of the John Muir Way Cost to Coast.  This route will tick off plenty on your sight seeing list as you can see Falkirk Wheel and Callendar Park.
