Strathpuffer 2020

by The Cycle Jersey |

This year’s Puffer event is right around the corner! If you’re a fan of freezing temperatures (think ice, wind, hail, mud and snow), 17 hours of darkness, miles of gruelling terrain and the possibility of a great Scottish sunrise then you should think about riding the Strathpuffer24. When it comes to mountain bike challenges, they don’t come much tougher or more rewarding than the Puffer. This legendary 24-hour mountain bike endurance event is held every year in the middle of winter in the Highlands of Scotland. The January 18th/19th 2020 event is Puffer number 15.

The Strathpuffer started in 2005- it was meant to be a one-off local event but somehow FIFTEEN years later it has become a national event with legendary status. Over the years they have seen every type of weather condition including gales that blew away marquees, ice roads and 2ft of snow the week before the event!  Believe it or not there have actually been reports of sunshine too… I know, hard to believe!

There’s nothing better than starting off the new year, by putting all your winter hard work and training to the ultimate test. This, somewhat crazy, event is described as one of the top 10 Mountain Bike events in the world. After all, it’s only 17 hours of darkness, winds that blow a hooley and rain no more than an average day in Scotland. Nothing you can’t give a good ole bash at!
