Dylan Farquhar, our youngest team rider, racing in the Juvenile category of the SDA season has managed to spare us a few minutes in between studying and training to fill us in on how the first stage went! Here's what he had to say...
The 2016 season of the SDA kicked off at Ae Forest, in the South of Scotland. It was a dull forecast for the weekend ahead, but spirits were high and tactically that's all that mattered. I managed to find a few good lines and was excited for Saturday practice.
The day started at about 6am on Saturday morning, arriving at the track at about 8am. My practice run started at around 10, which gave plenty of prep time and the track was looking dry and fast. I got my first few runs in and then stopped for lunch. After lunch I got most of my lines dialled... Except for a small section in the woods, where I made friends with a tree!! It knocked some confidence into me though, as by the end of the day I was happy with the track and the bike was running mint.
Sunday morning started roughly the same, I got to the track at about 7:30 and my practice run went ok. I took it easy, cruising through my lines, making sure I knew the track and once I got to the bottom I was really confident in the bike and in myself.
My first race run went well. I just made sure that I got a fast, clean run and that I got a decent time on the board. Once I had refuelled I walked up the track to the step down and watched riders come through until it was time to head back up to the top for my second run. On this run my plan was to just go flat out, I had got a good time in run 1 and was sitting in 7th so I would be happy with that if I crashed or the run didn't go to plan. I hit all my lines mint and managed to get a 2.37 which placed me 4th, but by the time all the riders had come down I was in 6th.
Overall a great weekend, stoked with 6th - my highest position in the SDAs so far! Definitely looking forward to the rest of the season, and hoping I can pull a podium at some point!
Proud to be having him race in our colours, we wish him and the rest of Team TCJ and BaseCamp Bikes an awesome ride throughout the race!
